Denmark’s National Week of Exercise
Week 41 is Denmark's National Week of Exercise. This week, many actors and organizations in Denmark are joining forces to focus on exercise, movement and training. At SEA HEALTH & WELFARE, we know that physical activity can positively affect both the working environment and well-being on board. But physical activity also brings many other physical and mental benefits to the individual seafarer. A good, healthy, and long life at sea, therefore, involves physical activity.
Consequently, we at SEA HEALTH & WELFARE would like to support the initiative. In week 41, you will be able to pick up a weekly calendar with workouts and games you as a crew can get started with. During the week, you can also follow us on social media when other seafarers get involved in The Week of Exercise and you become wiser about physical activity and health.
Physical activity in the workplace can strengthen well-being and the work environment.
The Knowledge Council for Prevention (DK) has pointed out that training initiatives in the workplace have an excellent effect. The individual employee can, of course, do something on their own. Still, managers and key employees in the workplace can have a positive influence by ensuring that there are initiatives that the employees can take advantage of in the workplace. Backing and supporting the initiatives that revolve around exercise, physical activity, and health is beneficial for both the workplace as well as the individual employee.
Physical activity in the workplace can be an excellent initiative to strengthening well-being and a good working environment. Exercising together with colleagues can help increase inclusion in the workplace and contribute to a good and strong community.
Some also point out that physical activity can increase employees' creativity and contribute to more effective hours at work, even if the action takes place during work hours. In addition to this, physical activity can also reduce the number of illnesses related to muscular and joint problems.
Physical and mental benefits
Physical activity contributes to an overall better physical well-being and health. Through cardio training, you can improve your endurance and the body’s circulation so that you can, for example, keep cardiovascular diseases and diabetes at bay. With strength training, you strengthen your muscles and joints to maintain a robust musculoskeletal system throughout life. But physical activity also contributes positively to your mental health. Symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression can be reduced through physical activity. To practice a team sport or joining a training group can enhance the community feeling. Completing a run or strength training session, for example, can boost your self-image and self-confidence.

How do we get started with the exercise week?
We hope that The Week of Exercise can be a kickoff and maybe be a start for you to become more physically active during your working day. We have made an activity schedule for the week with suggestions for two different activities each day. You choose between the two types of activities. In this way, you can adapt the day's activity to precisely what you want on board and for your surroundings:
"Fun & Games":
This is a lighter activity designed as a game.
"Workout":
This is for those of you who want a slightly higher heart rate and sweat on the forehead. However, everyone can participate regardless of level, and you do not need any equipment or training room.
