Day of the Seafarer campaign calls on States to recognize seafarers as keyworkers

‘Day of the Seafarer’ is coming up soon. That day where we show seafarers our support and gratitude by shouting out loud that ‘Seafarers are Keyworkers'!
But this year, we thought we’d change the concept a little bit and instead call it ‘Week of the Seafarer’. Simply because we believe that seafarers deserve more than just a day to be acknowledged for their extraordinary and enormous effort and sacrifices during the corona pandemic. So, from Friday 19th of June and all the way to Thursday, June 25 on the real Day of the Seafarer, we are dedicating our platforms to pay tribute to seafarers who are experiencing extra-long voyages and are missing home and loved ones. And to all other seafarers who are simply awesome because they make the world move every day.

This is the voice of Captain on board VENTAMAERSK, Thomas Lindegaard Madsen:

“This year, the Day of the Seafarer campaign calls on States to recognize seafarers as keyworkers – and to provide them with the support, assistance and travel options open to all key workers during the pandemic

In this photo from December 2019 are the ABs Melvin, Josel and Elias, who all signed on the VENTA MAERSK in October 2019, and they are still on board. They and the rest of the team on board has helped keeping the VENTA MAERSK going, and thereby the supply chain in the Baltic Sea. Every second day a new port in the busy Baltic Feeder Trade, but always smiling and taking care of each other and the rest of the crew. It is about time for them to go home.

Take care of your seafarer colleague next to you. Ask how he/she feels or just leave a moment of silence to give the opportunity for him/her to speak, if necessary. Keep an extra eye and be ready to listen and support. Be open and share your own feelings and concerns. Nobody is alone. The Corona Crisis has made this more necessary than ever.”
