Survey of bullying and harassment on Danish ships

All seafarers on Danish-flagged ships can now help to shed light on the extent of harassment and bullying on board. In their email inbox is an invitation and link to an anonymous questionnaire, which they can answer until 31 March.

It must be safe and secure for all seafarers to go to work. Therefore, the Danish Maritime Authority has asked the University of Southern Denmark to investigate the extent of bullying and harassment on Danish-flagged ships.

If you haven’t answered yet, please do so. The study will help to clarify the current extent of bullying and harassment on Danish ships and whether further action is needed.

Find the invitation in your inbox

All seafarers on Danish-flagged ships received an email with the invitation and link to the questionnaire from their employer in February.

Suppose you have a question about the survey or are still waiting to receive an email with the invitation and link to the questionnaire. In that case, you can contact Lisa Loloma Froholdt, senior maritime researcher at the University of Southern Denmark, via e-mail: lfroholdt@health.sdu.dk in order to receive the link to the questionnaire.

Once you have completed the questionnaire and pressed Send, the University of Southern Denmark will receive the answers directly. All responses are anonymous, and the deadline is 31 March 2023.

"Regardless of your background, nationality, and job function on board, we would like to hear about your personal experiences with harassment and bullying. Your answers will be a valuable contribution. We need as many completed questionnaires as possible for the industry to have a good basis for preventing bullying and harassment," says Lisa Loloma Froholdt, a senior maritime researcher at the University of Southern Denmark.

Your answers are confidential

The questionnaire consists of four sections with about 30 main questions. The questionnaire will take about 20-25 minutes to complete. You must have stable access to the internet when completing the questionnaire.

"We hope you will take the time to answer all the questions in the questionnaire. Only we in the research team will see your answers. This is because we follow the strict European GDPR rules for data handling," says Lisa Loloma Froholdt.
